Kenya Moore Talks Real Housewives of Atlanta Cast Shakeup: “Door Is Closed” on Nene Leakes’ Return
Kenya Moore Spills the Tea on The Real Housewives of Atlanta Season 14 Cast Changes
RHOA Season 14 Hiatus and Kandi Burruss’ Exit
While appearing on the Tamron Hall Show to promote her Lifetime movie Abducted off the Street: The Carlesha Gaither Story, Moore addressed the prolonged hiatus that led Kandi Burruss to announce her departure from the show after 14 seasons.
“They were thinking about, after last season, recasting the show, figuring it out and it’s just taken forever,” Moore told Hall. “And so, we started making moves. She started doing other projects, I started doing this project. I’m working on Kenya Moore Hair Care… I opened a hair salon in Atlanta [and] I started focusing on other things.”
Kenya Moore’s Uncertain Future on RHOA Season 15
Moore expressed confidence in Burruss’ ability to thrive despite her exit from the show, stating, “she is that girl.” Bravo has yet to comment on casting for RHOA Season 15, and Moore herself is uncertain about her own return, as “they haven’t made any final decisions.”
“I think they will be announcing that shortly,” Moore teased. “For me, I am just focusing on the new for Kenya Moore.”
Nene Leakes’ Return to The Real Housewives of Atlanta: A Closed Chapter
During the conversation, Hall also inquired about the possibility of NeNe Leakes returning to the franchise.
“I don’t know, I can’t answer that,” Moore replied. “That question has been asked a lot of times but according to our boss, that door is closed. But you know, you never know.”
Leakes ended her tenure on RHOA after Season 12 amid a contract dispute and later sued Bravo for creating a toxic work environment, which she later dropped. In August 2023, Leakes stated that she had no hard feelings against executive producer Andy Cohen and was open to returning to the franchise.
Kenya Moore Welcomes Porsha Williams’ Potential Return to RHOA
In an exclusive interview with Page Six, Kenya Moore expressed her openness to a comeback by her former Real Housewives Of Atlanta co-star, Porsha Williams.
Despite their past conflicts, Moore acknowledged the impact of their entertaining chemistry on the show.
“I think we made great TV together. You know, I think we’re the best frenemies. Some of the best times on that show have been created with me and Porsha,” Moore shared.
“Some of the most iconic moments have been created with us being onscreen together. So I feel like that magic could still exist if she comes back.”
Casting Updates for RHOA Season 16
Moore also revealed that casting for the upcoming Season 16 of The Real Housewives Of Atlanta is nearing completion.
She predicted that the process would be finalized “within the next 30 days” and that filming would commence in the spring.
“I think they’re 100 percent focused on creating a dynamic new cast with some oldies and some newbies,” she teased. “So we’ll see. We’ll see. Season 16 might just be as sweet as you want it to be.”
No Possibility of NeNe Leakes’ Return to RHOA
While Moore is hopeful for Williams’ return, she ruled out the possibility of a comeback by series original NeNe Leakes, who filed a racism and discrimination lawsuit against Bravo, executive producer Andy Cohen, and others in April 2022.
“I pretty much know the door is closed on NeNe,” Moore stated. “You know, I think Andy has said it out of his own mouth that, you know, he’s going to keep her name out of his mouth. So I think I have to say that’s not a possibility.”
Andy Cohen Promises a “Superb” New Cast for RHOA Season 16
Despite the departure of Kandi Burruss, Andy Cohen expressed excitement about the Season 16 cast of The Real Housewives Of Atlanta.
On his Sirius XM show Radio Andy, Cohen teased audiences with the upcoming casting announcements.
“I do want to say I’m not announcing anything, but we are on it and the casting is superb,” Cohen said.
He acknowledged the challenge of Burruss’ departure but viewed it as an opportunity to reshape the cast.
“And she’s a big loss, but I think, you know, it allows us to figure out the future and I guess this is me just saying I’m very excited about the casting that we have. Very.”
