Presidential Candidates: Bowen Yang’s Subtle Digs at SNL After Nikki Haley‘s Cameo
Bowen Yang Seemingly Calls Out ‘SNL‘ After Nikki Haley‘s Surprise Appearance
Bowen Yang, a cast member of Saturday Night Live (SNL), has been making subtle criticisms of the show’s recent decisions. The actor apparently voiced his dissatisfaction after Nikki Haley, a Republican 2024 presidential candidate, made a surprise appearance in the cold open of the latest episode, hosted by Ayo Edebiri.
Haley’s Appearance on SNL
During her appearance on SNL, Haley was questioned by Edebiri about the cause of the U.S. Civil War.
“I was just curious, what would you say was the main cause of the Civil War, and do you think it starts with an s and ends with a –lavery?” Edebiri asked.
Haley responded, “Yep, I probably should’ve said that the first time.”
Yang’s Deleted Instagram Post
Following Haley’s appearance, Yang shared a photo on Instagram of a flower arrangement and a note from SNL‘s executive producer Lorne Michaels, which was addressed to the politician.
The note reads, “Welcome to Studio 8H! From Lorne + everyone at SNL.”
Yang captioned the post, “everyone :),” and disabled comments.
Yang’s Distance from the SNL Cast
In the previous weekend’s episode, Yang appeared to distance himself from the rest of the SNL cast during the good night segment of the show.
Dave Chappelle took the stage despite not making any on-screen appearances throughout the night. Chappelle has previously drawn criticism from the LGBTQ+ community for his jokes, which some have deemed transphobic.
Shane Gillis’ Upcoming Hosting Gig
SNL recently announced that stand-up comedian Shane Gillis will be hosting the show on February 24. Gillis was initially announced as a new cast member for Season 45, but he was fired shortly after due to resurfaced clips of him using anti-Asian slurs.
