Donald Trump Mocks Nikki Haley‘s Absent Military Husband at South Carolina Rally
Trump Takes Aim at Haley‘s Presidential Nomination Hopes
Former president Donald Trump and former ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley are engaged in a heated battle for the Republican Party’s Presidential Nomination, and things are getting increasingly personal.
At a rally in Haley‘s home state of South Carolina on Saturday, Trump taunted her by asking where her husband, Michael Haley, was, insinuating that she was involved with other men.
“Where’s her husband? Oh, he’s away… What happened to her husband? Where is he? He’s gone…he knew, he knew,” Trump jeered.
Haley fired back, referring to Trump‘s avoidance of military service as a young man.
“Michael is deployed serving our country, something you know nothing about,” Haley said.
Michael Haley is currently deployed in Africa, having previously served in Afghanistan.
Haley Challenges Trump to a Debate
At a rally of her own a few hours later, Haley challenged Trump to a debate, saying, “Donald, if you have something to say, don’t say it behind my back. Get on a debate stage and say it to my face.”
She also posted photos of her children in front of her tour bus in South Carolina, saying, “Running for president is hard. It’s even harder to do when it feels like I’m missing my rock, Michael…”
Haley Refuses to Concede Despite Trailing in Polls
Despite trailing by 30 points in her own home state, Haley has refused to throw in the towel, pledging to stay in the race until Super Tuesday, March 5, when 15 states will hold primaries that could decisively tilt the nomination race.
Haley‘s refusal to fold has clearly irked Trump, who continues to denigrate her and other women, including captured soldiers, whom he has called “losers.”
Michael Haley Responds to Trump‘s Attacks
Michael Haley himself responded to Trump‘s latest salvo by posting a meme online with a picture of a wolf and the text: “The difference between humans and animals? Animals would never allow the dumbest ones to lead the pack.”
It remains to be seen how this latest spat between Trump and Haley will affect the outcome of the Republican Presidential Nomination race.
