Aamir Khan‘s Wife, Kiran Rao, Defends Him Against Sandeep Reddy Vanga‘s Misogyny Claims: “He Should Talk to Him Man to Man”
Kiran Rao Clarifies Her Stance on Misogyny in Bollywood Films
In a recent interview, filmmaker Kiran Rao addressed Sandeep Reddy Vanga‘s controversial comments about Aamir Khan and misogyny in Indian movies.
Vanga, the director of the upcoming film “Animal”, had previously suggested that Rao should look at Aamir Khan‘s past films before criticizing his own work.
“I never mentioned Sandeep Reddy Vanga‘s movies or any specific film when I talked about misogyny in Bollywood films,” Rao said. “I haven’t seen his work, so I don’t know why he would assume that I was referring to his films.”
Kiran Rao Defends Aamir Khan From Accusations of Misogyny
Rao also defended Aamir Khan from Vanga‘s claims that he has been misogynistic in his past work.
“Aamir is one of the few actors who have apologized for the misogyny in their past work,” Rao said. “He has apologized on record for the suggestive song ‘Khambe Jaisi Khadi Hai,’ which was filmed on him and Madhuri Dixit in the 1990 film ‘Dil.'”
“There are very few people who would look back at their body of work and apologize for doing something problematic in retrospect,” Rao added. “And that’s really laudable.”
Kiran Rao Calls on Sandeep Reddy Vanga to Address His Concerns Directly to Aamir Khan
Rao also suggested that Vanga should address his concerns directly to Aamir Khan, rather than making public statements about him.
“If Mr. Vanga has something to tell Aamir, he should tell him man to man,” Rao said. “I’m not responsible for Aamir‘s work or Aamir Khan. I wish Mr. Reddy would address his questions directly to Mr. Khan.”
Animal Team Responds to Kiran Rao‘s Clarification
The official Twitter handle of the film “Animal” responded to Kiran Rao‘s clarification, saying that they were not making any assumptions about her intentions.
“We neither our Director Mr @imVangasandeep are making any assumptions Miss @ikiranrao!” the tweet read. “It’s a fact reported by a very big media channel.”
Kiran Rao‘s Previous Comments on Misogyny in Bollywood
In a previous interview, Kiran Rao had mentioned films like Sandeep Reddy Vanga‘s 2019 romantic movie “Kabir Singh” and SS Rajamouli‘s 2015 action epic “Baahubali: The Beginning” as films laced with misogyny that went on to become blockbusters.
Vanga responded to her claim by asking her to comment on Aamir Khan‘s past work, in films like “Dil”.
Rao‘s recent clarification suggests that she was not referring to Vanga‘s films specifically, but rather to the broader issue of misogyny in Bollywood.
The exchange between Kiran Rao and Sandeep Reddy Vanga highlights the ongoing debate about misogyny in Bollywood films.
Rao‘s defense of Aamir Khan and her call for Vanga to address his concerns directly to Khan suggest that she believes that personal attacks are not the best way to address the issue of misogyny in the film industry.
