Justin Timberlake is reportedly “seething” over the renewed drama with his ex-girlfriend Britney Spears overshadowing his new music, according to a source who spoke to Page Six.
The source says that Timberlake had hoped the backlash from Spears’ memoir would have blown over by now so that he could focus on his new album, which he’s very excited about, but every day is something new.
Timberlake’s rep did not respond to Page Six’s request for comment.

- 2000: The couple begins dating.
- 2002: Timberlake and Spears break up.
- 2003: Timberlake releases his debut solo album, Justified, which features the hit single “Cry Me a River,” which is rumored to be about Spears.
- 2023: Spears releases her memoir, The Woman in Me, in which she reveals that she had an abortion during their relationship because Timberlake “definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy” and “didn’t want to be a father.”
The drama between Timberlake and Spears has been reignited in recent weeks after Timberlake released his new single, “Selfish.” Spears’ fans successfully campaigned to get her 2011 song of the same name to No. 1 on iTunes in response.
Spears later praised Timberlake’s new track on Instagram, but Timberlake did not accept the mea culpa and issued a pseudo apology of his own during a performance in New York City just two days later.
The ex-Mouseketeers had a tumultuous breakup in 2002 after three years of dating. Timberlake infamously claimed at the time in his hit “Cry Me a River” that Spears had cheated on him, which she confirmed in her book, but he did not take accountability for his own alleged infidelity.
