“It Felt Earned”: Ridley Explains the Kiss
Ridley described the kiss as a “goodbye” between Rey And Kylo Ren, both in the sense that their characters were saying goodbye to each other and that she was saying goodbye to her role in the Star Wars franchise.
“It felt earned. And what was interesting again, I think it’s like intentionality. My feeling in that moment was it was a goodbye, so that felt earned. Because, I mean, you can call a kiss a thousand things, but I felt like it was a goodbye. And that whole scene felt so emotional, and I felt like I was saying goodbye to the job,” Ridley said.
The Emotional Farewell: Ridley’s Final Days on Set
Ridley shared a story about her final days on set, where she gave an emotional farewell to the crew at the request of director J.J. Abrams. Despite trying to hold back tears, Ridley found it difficult to say goodbye to the Star Wars franchise and her co-star, Adam Driver.
“Then actually we had to pick up something that was missed. So my very, very, very last day, we were doing various pickups and stuff, I had to literally sit and look, and the camera was coming away from me, and I guess I was looking at him. JJ was like “you good?” and I immediately started crying my eyes out, because it really felt like goodbye,” Ridley explained.
The Kiss: A Farewell to a Friend
Ridley emphasized that the kiss between Rey And Kylo Ren was not a romantic gesture, but rather a goodbye between two friends who had shared a deep connection.
“I felt like we all…it felt earned, and what was interesting again, I think, was intentionality. My feeling in that moment was that it was a goodbye, so that felt earned. Because, I mean, you could call a kiss a thousand things, but I felt like it was a goodbye, and that whole scene felt so emotional. I felt like I was saying goodbye to the job,” Ridley said.
The kiss served as a poignant farewell to Kylo Ren, highlighting the close bond that Rey had formed with him despite their tumultuous relationship throughout the Star Wars sequel trilogy.
The Future of Rey’s Story
While Ridley’s time as Rey in the Star Wars franchise may have come to an end, there is still anticipation among fans for the upcoming Star Wars film that will serve as a sequel to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Details about the new film, including its release date and plot, are still shrouded in secrecy. However, Ridley expressed excitement about returning to the role of Rey and continuing her journey in the Star Wars universe.
